How Paraffin Treatments Work
Paraffin treatments for hands and feet are usually offered at spas and nail salons. Your hands or feet will be dipped several times quickly into a small tub of heated paraffin wax. The paraffin is often scented with soothing essential oils.
After several layers are added, the wax will be covered in a plastic bag, wrapped in hot towels and you can relax as the benefits kick in. The wax will trap the heat against your skin as it hardens, opening the pores. Once the wax is completely cooled it will be pulled away, taking dead skin cells along with it. Source: AngiesList

Softens Skin
Paraffin wax treatments are frequently used in spas or manicuring salons since this petroleum-based product hydrates and softens skin while coating the skin’s surface. It also increases circulation to the skin and opens pores, which allows the hydrating elements to penetrate the outer layers of the skin. This makes it a good candidate for treating dry skin and moisturizing cuticles. Technicians apply paraffin wax by dipping the hand, foot or limb into the warm wax or brushing it on, allowing the wax to cool before peeling off. Source: Livestrong

Pain Relief
Another effect of paraffin wax is that when the wax is applied to the skin, the warmth opens pores and is absorbed through the skin. The warmth of the paraffin wax increases the blood flow to the affected area and allows greater ease of motion while also reducing pain. Source: Leaf
