Below are 3 tips for maintaining your spray tan:

Avoid Sweating
Heavy exercise, sweating, sunscreen, and chlorine can really deplete the life of your tan, so after the gym, beach, or pool, apply a gradual tanner to boost and maintain your glow. St. Tropez’s Gradual In-Shower Tan is a genius invention that makes self-tanning totally foolproof (and mess-proof): Take a shower, apply to wet skin, wait three minutes, and rinse! Use your gradual tanner when you’ve had a physical day or every three to four days to boost color in-between spray tan appointments. Source: Elle

Exfoliate
Even the best self-tanners I have tested have given me streaks along those trouble areas, including the wrists, knees and elbows. What I’ve always forgotten to do before application? Exfoliate. “You should exfoliate on or after the third day of your spray tan and then every few days,” Evans told me. “Using a light exfoliator will guarantee the tan remains and stays even during the duration of the tan and as it starts to fade.” After using the shower crème, apply the exfoliator to skin while bathing. Massage the formula all over your body in circular motions, concentrating on your elbows, knees and feet. Rinse. We recommend Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliator ($24, Sephora.com). FYI: Exfoliation doesn’t remove a tan completely. It blends and removes harsh color. Source: StyleCaster

Moisturize
Moisturize your skin with a produce that won’t fade your tan. Unfortunately not all moisturizers will help keep your tan glowing. You do need to make sure to use the right type of moisturizer in order to prolong your spray tan as long as possible. Good options are cocoa butter, aloe vera body butter, or coconut oil. You’ll want to avoid products that contain citrus extracts.

  • At the very least you should moisturize your whole body after you shower or bathe every day.
  • You can also moisturize your skin before you go to bed. Source: wikiHow
