As you change up your wardrobe to fend off the chills, you should also change your skincare routine. Below are 4 beauty mistakes that people commonly do in the winter:

Leaving Toenail Polish on Too Long
Many of us take an “apply it and forget it” approach with our toenail enamel, which means that once the socks come on, we might go months without a polish change. (Fingernail polish usually chips before this is an issue.) “Leaving polish on so long can erode nails and turn them yellow,” says Dove dermatologist Ellen Marmur, MD, who advises waiting no more than three weeks to remove polish. Source: Oprah

Taking a Long, Hot Shower
While taking a 20 minute steaming hot shower sounds like the best way to wake up in the morning, it may be doing more harm than good to your skin. The hot water dries out your skin, making it harder to retain moisture when you step out. Turn down the temperature and shorten your shower time. Source: StyleCaster

Forgetting Sunscreen
Think you can get away with not wearing sunscreen because it’s overcast? Think again. “The UVA rays, the ones responsible for changing the DNA in the skin causing premature lines, wrinkles and sagging, are almost the same strength from summer to winter,” Rouleau wrote. If you’re prone to forgetting this step, try incorporating a daily moisturizer that has an SPF already built in. Source: Romper

Using the Same Facial Products
The facial cleanser that got your through summer (and even fall), blemish free should be shelved in your medicine cabinet until the weather starts to warm again. Soap based cleansers may work magic on your face in the warm weather, but as the humidity drops and the dry heat starts pumping, make sure you use a hydrating cleanser and up your moisturizer.
